We’re just back from a few nights away in Berlin. We had a great time, it’s a lovely city and we really enjoyed ourselves. Since I took up running last year I have tried to fit in a run whenever we’ve been away in a different city. It’s a great way to see a little more of where you’re staying and it’s one of the best things about running – that as long as you have your kit with you you can do it wherever you are.
We were staying just north of the river in an area close to Mitte which is the historical centre of Berlin. My two mile route took me across the river onto the Museum Island and back again through the Hackersher Market area.
It was a beautiful morning for a run and I saw some pretty sights along the way

I route was pretty much flat so it was a comfortable run. I was careful when crossing roads to wait for the signals to change which slowed me down a bit but I thought it was better to be safe than sorry as I hadn’t quite got used to the traffic being on the opposite site of the road! There are also trams to look out for which I am not used to – and bikes! In Berlin the bike seems to be king and people ride not just on the roads but also on the pavement which took a bit of getting used to.
Overall it was great to get out and run in a different city. I also felt less guilty about the beer and sausage I had later on knowing that I’d burned off a good few calories in the morning – its all about the balance!
