Extreme Inferno – Weeks 2&3

Where on earth has the time gone? I’m rapidly approaching the end of week 3 of Julia Buckley’s Extreme Inferno programme. Those 3 weeks have flown by and it’s safe to say that while the programme is incredibly challenging, I am loving it.

Having now got into the swing of a new set of exercises it’s obvious that this is a totally different challenge to Julia’s original programme The Fat Burn Revolution: Boost Your Metabolism and Burn Fat Fast. The weights I’m lifting are no-where near as heavy, because Julia has introduced elements to make the moves far more difficult. Like one legged deadlifts and combining moves like a lunge, bicep curl and shoulder press.

I’m also becoming very well acquainted with two particular pieces of fitness kit – the pull up bar and the exercise ball. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you’ll know that pull ups are on my list of ‘things to do before I’m 40’. I feel like I’m finally making progress towards that goal. Julia’s given us lots of options for assisted pull ups, including the negatives technique and I’m slowly but surely seeing some improvement.

Me and my exercise ball have fallen out on more than one occasion over the last three weeks. Balancing on one arm or one foot on the ball in plank position is really not very easy. But I’m determined that it won’t beat me. Again, I’m seeing progress albeit small and that’s enough to keep me motivated

And speaking of motivation. Well there’s nothing better than some results. My scales tell me that I’ve lost nearly 5lbs in the last 3 weeks. Curiously my body fat % is about the same as when I started. However, my friend the tape measure tells me that 7cms have already disappeared from my body. In under 3 weeks. I’m delighted with that.

Next week there are some new exercises to try out. I’ve watched the videos and I’ve got to say I’m feeling a bit daunted. I think my core is in for a bit of a Julia style ‘treat’.

I’ll report back!
